The outgoing Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has officially completed his 10-year tenure, saying he is leaving behind a stronger and more credible admissions system.

Oloyede made the remarks on Friday during a handover ceremony at JAMB’s headquarters in Abuja, where he transferred leadership to his successor, Segun Aina.

He urged Nigerians to support the new registrar, stressing that the progress of the board should be built on continuity and institutional growth rather than individual personalities.

Reflecting on his tenure, Oloyede highlighted major reforms introduced under his leadership, including the expansion of Computer-Based Testing (CBT), biometric verification, the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), improved digital payment platforms and stronger examination monitoring systems.

He said the measures helped reduce examination malpractice and restored public confidence in the admission process.

The former registrar also disclosed that JAMB invested heavily in staff welfare, spending more than ₦8 billion on retirement savings, introducing a 13th-month salary, increasing allowances and providing transportation and medical support.

He added that retiring staff received financial packages ranging from ₦3 million to ₦10 million as part of efforts to appreciate their service.

Oloyede said his administration maintained a strict disciplinary system, including the prosecution of staff members involved in misconduct. He cited the case of a staff member who claimed ₦36 million was swallowed by a snake, insisting that the board remained committed to accountability.

He also noted that JAMB reduced the cost of UTME forms by 30 percent, increased support for candidates with disabilities and continued funding of tertiary institutions through annual merit awards.

While admitting that his administration had its shortcomings, Oloyede accepted responsibility for mistakes made during his tenure and expressed confidence that his successor would build on the achievements recorded.
