Renowned journalist and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dele Momodu, has stressed the need for a united opposition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during a programme aired on Aries TV, Momodu stated that for any candidate to mount a credible challenge against the incumbent president, such a contender must command influence in both the North and the South of the country.
According to him, only a strategic coalition can effectively challenge President Bola Tinubu’s political dominance.
“For anybody to face Tinubu, that person has to come from an opposing direction, which means it must be someone who can get the North to coalition behind him. Then must be someone who has a substantial network in the South. That’s why everybody is talking about Atiku,” he explained.
However, Momodu cautioned that no single opposition figure; whether Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, or Rabiu Kwankwaso can unseat the APC on their own.
He emphasized the urgent need for collaboration and warned PDP stakeholders against dismissing coalition talks.
“The truth of the matter is that Atiku cannot do it alone, Peter Obi cannot do it alone, and Kwankwaso cannot do it alone. They have to find a way to pay the APC back in its own coin. If our governors are saying, ‘Oh, we don’t go into coalitions,’ it means you are probably working for a Tinubu presidency,” Momodu asserted.
Reflecting on the political strength of the ruling party, he said, “Tinubu, who is already president even when he was not president we faced a lot of fire.
“Now, when you have Tinubu and Wike on one side, then it means you have to be battle-ready. You have to assemble all your weapons and be ready for the battle ahead, because 2027 is going to be like the World Cup, and you need your best players.”
