As part of its efforts to curb racketeering, the Federal Government is saying only public servant with National Identification Numbers, NIN will be allowed to purchase as it flags off the sale of 30,000 metric tons of milled rice.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari while flagging off the exercise, says the move is part of efforts to crash the prices of food in the Nigerian markets.

Represented by President Tinubu, Kyari avers that the intervention will be sold strictly on one man to one bag or one woman to one bag while submitting that the rice will be sold at a flat rate of N40,000 for 50 kilograms as it is federal government’s intervention for the sales of subsidized milled rice to ameliorate the prevailing food scarcity in Nigeria.

He noted that food intervention comes as at a critical time given the challenges facing the nation.

“This food intervention can be said to be timely considering the times and challenges we are in as citizens of this great nation”, he said.

Kyari attributed the initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating, “This kind of gesture was made possible at the expense and directives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who does not want Nigerian citizens to go to bed hungry, and in his wisdom, deemed it important to initiate this food intervention”.

He noted that food prices and supply chains have been globally disrupted by factors like COVID-19, the Russia-Ukraine war, and climate change, and Nigeria is no exception.
