Osun Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared Friday, August 14, 2026, a work-free day for public servants in the state ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The declaration is to enable workers who may need to travel to their places of registration to do so and prepare to exercise their voting rights during the election.
The decision was contained in a circular issued by Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, and made public by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed. It covers all categories of public workers, except those performing essential and emergency duties.
Adeleke also urged workers, their relatives and friends to turn out for the election and protect their votes.
In his message, he asked workers to mobilised informal workers, artisans and professional groups to participate in the poll and defend their constitutional right to vote.
Governor Adeleke also praised the relationship between his administration and workers in the state.
“The time for action has come. As formal workers at the state establishments, I task you to mobilise informal workers, artisans and professional bodies. We must remain strong in defence of our constitutional rights to vote and be voted for.
“We must defend the gains of the last three and half years plus. Ours is a workers-friendly government which has delivered across board to labour and Osun people. We cannot and must not allow a return to dark days”, the governor said.
Osun governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, with Adeleke seeking another term.
The governor said the work-free day would allow public servants to participate fully in the electoral process, while the state prepares for a closely watched election.
