The General Overseer of Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners Chapel), David Oyedepo, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over worsening insecurity and economic hardship in Nigeria.
Speaking during a sermon, Oyedepo urged the Federal Government to take decisive action to end the persistent killings across the country.
The cleric said the continued attacks by armed groups suggested that influential individuals were backing the violence. He warned that those responsible would eventually face divine judgment, declaring that “the bubble is about to burst.”
He also prayed against anyone promoting violence and bloodshed in Nigeria, whether they hold public office or not.
“The President needs to act now and stop pretending. You can’t slaughter members of my family and expect me to pray for you. I will pray against you and your household,” he said.
Oyedepo expressed concern over what he described as the government’s inability to tackle the security crisis.
“Gunmen kill people every day, and the government is pretending not to know what to do. I’ve kept quiet. When you see God keep quiet in the face of wickedness, it is because the bubble is about to burst,” he stated.
The bishop also questioned the government’s focus on restrictions against public preaching while killings continue across the country.
“I have not heard any statement from government quarters against the killings. Are human lives not of value anymore? And now you mustn’t preach in the bus. Is that an issue? Do you think we are dummies? We kept quiet waiting for God, and God told me the bubble will burst,” he said.
Oyedepo’s remarks add to growing calls by religious leaders for stronger government action to address insecurity, economic hardship and the continued loss of lives in Nigeria.
