A passenger train on the busy Kaduna-Abuja route derailed near Jere Station on Tuesday, leaving several cabins overturned and triggering panic, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.
Eyewitnesses described the situation as chaotic, with many scrambling for safety after the incident.
The exact cause of the derailment is yet to be confirmed, and it remains unclear whether there were casualties.
The latest disruption adds to the troubled history of the Kaduna-Abuja rail line, which has witnessed several incidents in recent years, including the deadly armed attack in March 2022.

Authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding Tuesday’s incident.
The derailment comes just a week after the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) reported another fault on the same corridor, when one of the train’s coach wheels developed a hot axle near Rigasa Station in Kaduna.
The NRC explained that the fault, caused by excessive heat, was quickly managed and the train was returned safety to Kaduna.

At the time, the Corporation warned of temporary capacity issues, especially for Business Class passengers, and issued an apology for the inconvenience.
