A massive fire broke out at the Bono Energy Terminal in Lagos on Friday, sparking panic and prompting a large-scale emergency response along the Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway.
The blaze erupted at the fuel storage facility in the Coconut area of Olodi Apapa, sending thick black smoke and towering flames high into the sky.
Residents, workers, and motorists fled the area as fears grew that the fire could spread to nearby oil tank farms and gas facilities.
Firefighters from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) were swiftly deployed to contain the inferno and prevent a wider disaster.
Emergency responders are battling the flames while working to secure other critical installations in the area.
LSFRS spokesperson Shakiru Amodu confirmed the incident, saying firefighters remain on the ground and that more updates will be provided as operations continue.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, while authorities have not confirmed any casualties or the extent of the damage.
Videos circulating on social media show firefighters spraying foam and water as frightened residents and workers rushed to safety.
Motorists have been urged to avoid the Coconut axis and use alternative routes until the fire is completely extinguished and the area is declared safe.
