The magnificent imo International Conference Center IICC Owerri just collapsed whilst the rain.
9News Nigeria owerri reports that the collapse was part of the building at the rare side and not the entire structure.
The collapse according to Imo people is a setback for the state government to start a new work on the collapsed edifice built by the previous administrations which is supposedly standardized to the test of time.
This, as part of Imo International Conference Center IICC collapse is a call on Government to as a matter of importance and safety caution contractors handling public projects and Imo roads to use quality materials and do solid work to establish a long lasting edifice for the state.
This indeed is shameful and reduces the curriculum Vitae CV of the CONSTRUCTION company that did the IICC work in error.
Recall that the IICC was built by the former governor Rochas Okorocha’s Government under whose watch such uncountable projects were brought to the state.
It is unfortunate therefore that an edifice of such attraction to the global world collapsed few years after its establishment.
On a chat with the governor’s aide to confirm the incident, the honorable regretted the absence of quality valuers and Ministry of works supervision during the construction.
A call in the right direction is not to keep blaming Okorocha but to profer a long lasting strategy to reconstruct some of these projects including giving Imo state a better and stronger roads by this present administration.
