Programs and activities leading to the interment of late Elder Engr. (Dr) Maurice Asuquo Ebong has been unveiled by a Central Planning Committee – CPC constituted to see into the funeral of the deceased elder statesman.
Addressing Press men at the residence of late Dr. Ebong at Plot 44 D. line Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo, the CPC Chairman, Dr. Asikpo Essienibok said the opening of the mourning house at D44 Ewet Housing Estate will be on Monday 20th May 2024.
While Wednesday 23rd May will be the Night of Songs at the same venue, Saturday 25th May 2024 is fixed for his interment, Dr. Essienibok said.
Late Elder Engr. (Dr.) Maurice Asuquo Ebong passed on to the great beyond on February 14, 2024 at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital – UUTH at exactly 4.00 PM
Dr. Ebong who died at 81, was born on June 3, 1943 into the royal family of Ebong Umoh Itong Enang Udo Mbut in Ikot Ebido, of Oku clan, Uyo of Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria.
Late Ebong started his primary education in 1956 at the then Government Practicing School, now University of Uyo Town Campus. He sat for the West African School Certificate WASC at Lutheran High School Obot Idim Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area on 1961.
Maurice Ebong, a philanthropist who was born in the household of the Catholic Church, moved at some points of his life to Living Faith Church also known as Winners Chapel to continue his service to God.
Late Maurice Ebong studied Electrical Engineering at the prestigious Ulianov-Leni, Leningrad University in URRS known now as Russia and obtain his B.Sc, Msc and PhD all in electrical Engineering.
Ebong was an accomplished Engineer who worked and served in several organizations and professional bodie.
Ebong has served meritoriously on several State and national board where he contributed immensely to the growth and development of the country and the State.
Late Ebong was in the Governing Council of Akwa Ibom Polytechnic, Ikot Asurua, he was Member Board of Directors, Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority – NNZA, Abuja. He was Member, Board of Directors, Nigerian Atomic Energy commission (NAEC) and he also belong to a plethora of professional organization.
Elder Ebong was a reverted Elder Statesman who served his State from the days of SDP to the formation of the People Democratic Party – PDP in 1999 wherein he was nominated to be the State Political Leader from 2007 to 2014 before his transitioned to APC where he was an active party man till death took him away.
Dr. Ebong was one of the founding member of Adaha Ibibio also known as Ibibio Elders Forum. He was one of the Mkpisong Akwa Esop Imasong Ibibio and he belonged to Ifim Ibom Ibibio Advisory Council.
Late Elder Engr Dr.Maurice Ebong is survived by a wife Mrs Elizabeth Maurice Ebong, three children namely Enene, Eminne and Ekemini and two grandchildren.
Those who constitute the Central Planning Committee for the obsequies of Dr. Ebong are Dr. Asikpo Essienibok, Ekong Etuk, Sunny Jackson Udo, Martyns Udo Inyang, Emine Ebong, Enene Ebong Dr. Ita Udosen, Sunday Edemenang among others.
