Plateau State Police Command has arrested 12 persons suspected of plotting to trigger unrest in parts of the state, in what authorities described as a deliberate attempt to undermine ongoing peace efforts after recent security tensions.
The suspects were reportedly picked up by police operatives on Friday April 3 shortly after Juma’at prayers in Zololo, Jos North Local Government Area, where they were allegedly making moves capable of provoking violence and disturbing public peace.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, said the arrests were made following swift intelligence-led operations targeted at individuals believed to be fueling tension in vulnerable communities.
He noted that the command acted promptly to prevent the situation from escalating, stressing that security agencies would not allow any person or group to plunge Plateau State into another round of crisis.
The police boss further warned that anyone found spreading hate messages, sponsoring violence, or mobilizing youths for unlawful acts would face the full weight of the law.
