In a tragic circumstances, the Police operatives in Plateau State have arrested a 23 year-old student of the University of Jos, David Napon Timnap, a 200-Level student of Agriculture for allegedly killing and burying his colleague, Peter Mata Mafuyai, 300-Level Banking and Finance student, aged 22, in a shallow grave inside his room at Rusau village, Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State.
According to security sources, Timnap, reportedly attacked and hacked Mafuyai to death in his residence before burying the victim within the premises.
The suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Plateau State Police Command attached to Laranto Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, following a distress call received around 9.30a.m. on Saturday.
“Upon receiving the distress call, the DPO led a team of officers to the scene where the suspect was arrested”, Police source disclosed.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Timnap dug a shallow grave inside his room, where he secretly buried his colleague’s remains.
The body has since been exhumed and deposited at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital morgue in Jos for autopsy.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue to determine the motive behind the gruesome and barbaric murder.
