The Nigeria Police Force has barred the Western Nigeria Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun, vigilante groups and other non-state security outfits from participating in security operations during governorship election in Osun State.

The directive is part of measures being put in place by the police to ensure a controlled security arrangement before, during and after the election.

The police said security responsibilities for the election would remain with recognised and authorised law enforcement and security agencies deployed to the state.

The exclusion of Amotekun and other non-state security groups is expected to prevent overlapping security operations and ensure that all security personnel operating around are subject to a command structure.

The police have also warned individuals and groups against taking the law into their own hands or attempting to interfere with the electoral process.

Voters have been urged to remain peaceful and comply with directives from authorised security personnel throughout the election period.
