The Nigeria Police Force has transferred the case file of the alleged extrajudicial killing of a Delta youth to the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation for legal review and prosecution.
The incident involved the killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State on April 26, 2026, after he was reportedly shot by a police officer during an operation.
Authorities confirmed that the officer involved, ASP Nuhu Usman, had been arrested and subjected to disciplinary procedures following the incident, which sparked widespread outrage after a video surfaced online.
By forwarding the case to the AGF, the police signaled that the matter will now proceed through formal legal channels, with expectations of prosecution inline with the law.
The development follows calls from legal bodies and civil society groups demanding transparency and justice over the killing, which has been widely condemned as a violation of due process and human rights.
