Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, has rejected the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus arrangement for elective positions in Gombe State.
Pantami, who is a governorship aspirant under the APC in the state, made his position known in a statement issued on Sunday by Suleiman Mohammed on behalf of his supporters and members of the Pantamiyya Movement.
In the statement, the former minister described the process as a “coronation” that undermines democratic principles and violates legal provisions.
He expressed strong reservations about the consensus model adopted by party stakeholders, arguing that it lacks inclusivity and fails to reflect the will of party members.
He maintained that the arrangement sidelines qualified aspirants and deprives them of a fair and transparent opportunity to contest.
Pantami further contended that the process contravenes relevant provisions of Nigeria’s electoral framework, insisting that any selection method that excludes broad participation risks being legally challenged.
While reaffirming his commitment to the ideals of the APC, Pantami urged party leaders in Gombe State to reconsider the arrangement and adopt a more democratic and lawful approach that accommodates all interested aspirants.
