Federal House of Representatives has Thursday afternoon received a letter presented before it by the Reps House committee on state creation concerning the thirty (31) one cumulative number of proposed states from all regions.

The letter according to speaker Federal House of Representatives said the Honourable house will look into it and make necessary arguments inline with the ethics of practice of the Federal law makers.

The letter contained the total number of states from all the regions of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at thirty (31) one.

Our reliable source from the Federal house of representatives told 9News that all the thirty one states cannot be approved as gathered by the committee.

The lawmakers who are members of the the Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution said it received a proposal from the states’ creation across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.

Reading a letter from the committee on the floor of the plenary, the deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu also stated that all necessary conditions must be met before the creation of any state.

According to the letter from the committee, there were requests for the creation of five states from the North Central; four from the North East, five from the North West, five from the South East, four from the South South, and seven from the South West.

Accordingly to the letter , “Local Government Advocates for the creation of additional local government areas are only reminded that Section 8 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, applies to this process.

“Local Government Advocates for the creation of additional local government areas are only reminded that Section 8 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, applies to this process.

The states considered for creation include:

From Kogi

1 Okun

2 Okura

3 Confluence

Benue

4 Benue Ala

5 Apa

6 FCT State

7 Amana (Adamawa)

8 Katagum (Bauchi)

9 Savannah (Borno)

10 Muri (Taraba)

From Kaduna

11 New Kaduna state

12 Gujarat states

13 Tiga (Kano)

14 Ari from Kano

15 Kainji from Kebbi state

South East

16 Etiti

17 Orashi

18 Adada

19 Orlu

20 Aba

21 Ogoja from Cross River

22 Warri from Delta

From Rivers

23 Ori

26 Ibadan from Oyo

27 Lagoon from Lagos,

28 Ogun

29 Ijebu from Ogun

30 Oke Ogun

31 Ijesha from Oyo/Ogun/Osun states

The letter has fused a lot of mixed reactions pending the unending controversy delaying the New state creation across all zones.

However, it may interest our readers to note that some zones are less numbered than some other states, just like SouthEast that has only five states while some zones are topping with seven states.

However , at several national conferences held in Abuja Nigeria, the quest for the creation of New states has continued to trend following bedevilling tendencies of disenfranchisement, negligence of some regions, inequality , imbalance and dominance of power shift in the polity.

The creation of New states is a sensitive one targetted at equitable distribution of power, free flow of representation and balance in resource control as 9News Nigeria reports.

It is therefore behoves on the Reps to consider strictly the zones that are low numbered to make a balance before any additional states can be added as 9News Nigeria reports.
