The dismissal of Betta Edu as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, following her testimony at Shiloh 2023 has raised questions about the connection between her association with Bishop David Oyedepo and her deposition.

In a stunning turn of events, Betta Edu was suspended from her position just weeks after sharing a testimony at the annual Shiloh event of the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners’ Chapel.

Was Betta Edu an unsuspecting sacrificial lamb at the altar of innocence and ignorance or a lamb among bloodthirsty wolves?

Irrespective of Betta Edu’s conspicuously vigorous participation in the presidential campaign that led to President Tinubu’s clinch of the country’s top-most position, she was not in any way spared nor did she receive any mercy when she was allegedly found wanting.

Whereas some unfounded speculators construe that Betta Edu’s misfortune may have oozed from the spill of her illicit affairs with the “Lagos boys” or the “new cabals in town” who influence decisions within the office of the “oga at the top;” the timing of the testimony and the suspension draws profound attention.

Barely one month after the 37-year-old Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu shared testimony at Winners Chappel Shiloh 2023, she was suspended for an alleged N585million scam.

The coincidence has raised suspicion and curiosity on why Betta Edu’s can of worms had to be opened without mercy, just after she was openly seen to be a Bishop David Oyedepo’s devotee.

At the Shiloh 2023, Minister Betta Edu was captured on a viral video testifying how she prayed at the previous Shiloh 2022 that God should make her a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. She testified that she prayed that the next time she would come back for Shiloh, she would have been appointed a Minister. She said that she also met Bishop Oyedepo who sealed the prayer that God has answered.

Little did, beautiful Betta know that she would be deposed from the particular office she was testifying about.

Minister Betta Edu

In her testimony, Edu revealed how Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of Winners’ Chapel, had prayed for her to become a minister in Nigeria. The timing of her suspension has raised questions about the connection between her association with Bishop Oyedepo and her dismissal from the cabinet.

During the Shiloh 2023 event, Betta Edu took to the stage to share her testimony. She recounted how she had prayed to God at Shiloh 2022, expressing her desire to become a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the next year’s Shiloh. On the last day of Shiloh 2022, she encountered Bishop David Oyedepo and approached him, requesting his prayers for her ministerial aspirations. Bishop Oyedepo placed his hands on her head and declared that her desire would be fulfilled. Edu left the event with a renewed sense of hope and faith in her future as a minister.

However, the joyous atmosphere quickly turned sour for Edu. Shortly after her testimony, allegations emerged regarding her involvement in a financial scandal. It was claimed that she had approved the disbursement of N585 million into a personal account, intended for grants to vulnerable groups in four states. The scandal gained public attention, leading to calls for Edu’s suspension and a thorough investigation into the matter. President Bola Tinubu, in response to the mounting pressure, took the drastic step of suspending Edu from her ministerial position.

The Coincidence and Suspicion

The timing of Edu’s suspension, coming just after her testimony at Shiloh 2023, has raised eyebrows and fueled speculation. Many have questioned whether there is a connection between her association with Bishop Oyedepo and her dismissal as minister. Given Bishop Oyedepo’s influential role in the political landscape, particularly during the recent presidential election, some have speculated that his hazy esoteric support for a different candidate other than Bola Ahmed Tinubu may have influenced the decision to suspend Edu. However, it is important to note that these claims are purely speculative and lack concrete evidence.

Recall, that a voice recording which many people believed was a conversation between Peter Obi and Bishop Oyedepo surfaced online after the presidential election. In the recording which went viral, Peter Obi was soliciting the clergyman’s help to facilitate votes for him amongst the Christian community and Bishop Oyedepo was affirmative to the request.

Bishop Oyedepo’s Influence

Bishop David Oyedepo is a prominent figure in Nigeria, known for his spiritual leadership and influence. As the founder and presiding bishop of the Living Faith Church, he commands a large following and has played a significant role in shaping public opinion. His endorsement or disapproval can carry weight in political circles, as seen during the recent presidential election. However, it is essential to approach these claims cautiously and seek evidence before drawing any conclusions about the impact of his association with Edu.

The need for a ‘thorough investigation’ that applies the proverbial ‘Goose And Gander’ standard.

One more question here is whether Betta Edu has done what others in Tinubu’s cabinet and beyond have not done or was just a litmus scapegoat.

In light of the allegations against Edu and the suspicions surrounding her dismissal, it is crucial to conduct a thorough investigation into the financial transactions of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. President Tinubu has ordered the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to lead the investigation and ensure that all aspects of the case are examined. It is only through a transparent and impartial investigation that the truth can be revealed and justice served.
