Former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly and past Imo State Trade Representative in the United States, Rt. Hon. Ike Ibe, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Prof. Humphrey Nwosu.
In his condolence message, Hon. Ibe described Prof. Nwosu as a towering figure in Nigeria’s democratic history and a man of unmatched integrity.
He highlighted Nwosu’s role in conducting the nation’s most credible presidential elections, which left an indelible mark on the democratic landscape.
“Prof was a great man, an erudite scholar, and an icon of democracy. He conducted the most credible presidential elections in the history of Nigeria,” Hon. Ibe stated.
Reflecting on the personal sacrifices made by Nwosu, Ibe noted the late professor’s forced exile during his senior years, a consequence of his unwavering commitment to patriotic and principled leadership.
He paid a heartfelt tribute, saying that Nwosu “paid a deep price for it, having been forced to spend his senior years in exile due to his patriotic and principled conduct of the elections.”
Ibe was chairman at the wedding of the deceased daughter many years ago in Florida, U.S.A.
