Awka (9News Nigeria) – Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo’s security outfit, Agunechemba, has launched a significant operation against a notorious den of gunmen and kidnappers in Enugu-Agidi, Njikoka Local Government Area, resulting in scores feared dead. The operation, which took place around 1 am on Thursday, involved a joint effort with the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and military personnel, all acting on intelligence reports.
9News Nigeria reporter in Awka gathered that many of the criminals reportedly fled with injuries during the fierce gun battle that ensued. It was also gathered that the security forces recovered a substantial cache of weapons and other items. Among the recovered items were two AK-47 rifles, eight pump-action guns, four locally made pistols, and various ammunition, including three packets of cartridges containing 101 rounds. Additionally, a member of the criminal gang was arrested during the raid.
An operative from the Agunechemba security outfit, who requested anonymity, emphasized the state’s commitment to eradicating criminal activities. “Anambra must be free again. The Governor has done much and has given us the mandate to secure the state, and that’s what we’re doing. Those criminals must bow,” the operative stated.
Anambra has been grappling with rampant violence and kidnappings, with reports indicating that innocent individuals, including men, women, and children, have been victims of daily assaults. The recent operation reflects Governor Soludo’s administration’s renewed efforts to restore peace and security in the state, following the launch of the Agunechemba security outfit, which aims to combat crime effectively.
