Vice President Kashim Shettima has called for decisive action to tackle malnutrition in Nigeria.
Speaking during a virtual meeting of the National Council on Nutrition (NCN) at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, Shettima urged Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as other stakeholders, to adopt a multisectoral approach in addressing the crisis.
He warned that mere discussions without tangible results would be futile.
The Vice President emphasized that malnutrition poses a significant threat to Nigeria’s national security and economic productivity, stressing that it is not just a health concern but a “silent emergency” affecting the country’s future.
“We are dealing with a crisis that threatens both our national security and economic productivity. Malnutrition is not just a health issue, it is a silent emergency that affects cognitive development, weakens our workforce, and slows down the engine of national growth,” Shettima stated.
According to him, only a coordinated effort can drive real progress in combating malnutrition and improving nutrition outcomes across the country.
He further called for a united front involving government agencies, development partners, and the private sector to implement sustainable solutions.
