Shock As Eko Electric Worker Electrocuted During Reconnection

A 42-year-old member of an electricity distribution company, Oluwole Orija, has been electrocuted while working in Ebute Metta area of Lagos State.

The tragic incident occurred during maintenance work on the power lines, though specific details surrounding the circumstances remain unclear.

According reports, Orija, had been handling electricity equipment when the incident took place.

Emergency responders were alerted immediately but efforts to save his life were unsuccessful.

The Spokesperson Lagos State Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin who confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday said the the victim was reconnecting and clearing faulty electrical wires at Borno Way by Ayodele Junction, Ebute Metta, Lagos when the tragic incident happened.

The incident occurred at about 8.15 pm on Monday.

Hundeyin stated that the victim was rescued and rushed to the hospital for treatment but was confirmed dead by the doctor.

“On Wednesday, March 19 at about 10.15am, a staff of an electricity distribution company reported at Yaba Division that at about 20:15 hrs of 17/03/25, his colleague (name withheld) ‘m’ 42, allegedly got electrocuted while reconnecting and clearing some faulty electrical wires at Borno Way by Ayodele Junction, Ebute Metta.

“He was rescued and rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta where was confirmed dead by the doctor.

“Based on the report, a team of detectives visited the scene. The hospital was also visited where the corpse was photographed. The corpse has been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

“Meanwhile, investigation is in progress”, the statement read.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and among his colleagues, who described Orija as a dedicated professional.

Friends, family, and colleagues are mourning Orija’s passing, remembering him for his commitment to his job.

The investigative findings will likely play a crucial role in shaping future safety measures aimed at protecting workers in line of duty.
