It was a tragic day on Easter Monday, April 1, 2024 in Gadabiyu area of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The unfortunate incident took place at a popular Motor Park, known as Gadabiyu Motor Park in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State as a Vigilante through unreconcilable argument tragically stabbed a commercial driver to death.
A family member of the the deceased, who claimed anonymity, informed 9News Nigeria correspondent in Jos that “the incident arose from a heated argument between two individuals.
“Mr Abidemi Adegbola, the deceased, a commercial driver stationed at the said park, was smoking within the premises of the park when he was approached by one Ekene Okoye, a Vigilante member. Okoye requested Mr Abidemi to cease smoking, since the park is used for commercial activities”
“In response, Mr Abidemi questioned Okoye’s authority to disengage him from smoking since (Okoye) is not an NDLEA (National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency) official and questioning the relevance of his interpretation.
“Following the brief argument, Mr Abidemi walked away to a nearby Point of Sale (PoS) shop to withdraw money to purchase bottled water. As he was leaving the shop, Okoye approached him, removed jackknife and stabbed him in the right upper side of his chest. The victim, Mr Abidemi, who bled profusely at the spot, was rushed to a nearby hospital, Bingham University Teaching Hospital (BUTH) popularly known as Jankwano in Jos and despite undergoing surgery, he tragically lost his life shortly afterwards”
However, his body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary, and the alleged suspect Ekene Okoye, has been apprehended and was transferred to the State CID yesterday, fur further interrogation, and the suspect was said to have confessed to the crime, stating that he does not know what compelled him to commit the act.
