BY PRINCELY ONYENWE, IMO
A serious call has gone to the peoples’ governor of Imo state, Senator Hope Uzodinma to come to the Immediate rescue of Nekede Ancient Kingdom as their only major and busy NEKEDE old road is near to cut off by erosion menace bedevilling the area.
The exact position is at number-1, within ADC/ZOO area wherein since the inception of work by the Government on the Naze/FEDPONEK/Nekede/Ihiagwa/FUTO/Obinze road, vehicles are shuttling the old road thereby increasing its topographic decay and erosion menace.
Another saviour on the road was the seizure of the dredging of sand and its similar activities within the Otamiri River in Nekede by GOVERNOR Hope Uzodinma.
This in no doubt has helped the area from further collapse and degradation of land.
Our correspondent reports that the said collapsing ADC/zoo area at number one bus stop Nekede old road is posing a death trap to road users who ply this particular busy route and also set as a great danger to residents whose only road to their residence is at near cut-off position caused by gully erosion.
However, the erosion has projected further to the centre of the road causing vehicular traffic while people are going to and fro work and other daily hustles.
At the time of this report, the community leaders were put to call and they seriously decried the alarming danger the condition of Nekede old road has posed to their Community and in extension other linking Communities of Umuoma, Umudibia, Ihiagwa and Obinze Owerri West local government area of Imo state.
In a similar development, recall that a few months ago GOVERNOR Hope Uzodinma came to the rescue of Nekede people to re-enforce the construction work on the MMIRI NKWOAHIA bridge located at number 12 BUS STOP in Nekede and the people are ever grateful for the good relationship established with Nekede Community.
I have also called on the honourable member representing Owerri West at the Imo state house of ASSEMBLY, Hon KANAYO ONYEMAECHI to respond immediately and try his best to expedite possible actions to attract the COMMISSIONER FOR WORKS and our dear GOVERNOR UZODINMA to respond immediately to this call of safety and lives of Ndi Nekede and Imolites at large.
However, because the MMIRI NKWOAHIA bridge was not fully completed as reported by the indigenous supervisor at the site, the bridge has started collapsing again from the pillars.
It is therefore evident to affirm that the bridge has started going down again by this report.
Nekede people, therefore, wish to use this medium to call on Owerri West State ASSEMBLY member, HON KANAYO ONYEWUCHI, Senator EZENWA ONYEWUCHI, COMMISSIONER FOR WORKS AND GOVERNOR UZODINMA to please come to their immediate rescue.
“In the pics is the sorry state of Nekede old road. We surely will be cut off by this gully in the next couple of weeks if nothing is urgently done. We have to do the needful by alerting the government to come to our rescue”
