Imo State Governor and Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma, says the five governors in the region have agreed to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Uzodimma made the disclosure in Owerri during a meeting with traditional rulers and members of the Imo State Elders Council.
He said the governors, despite belonging to different political parties, concluded that working with the Tinubu administration is in the best interest of the South-East.
“We, the five governors of the South-East, have reviewed all options and decided that we will work with President Bola Tinubu because we want to be part of Project Nigeria,” Uzodimma said.
He added that the governors would soon pay a joint visit to President Tinubu to strengthen cooperation with the Federal Government.
The governor urged politicians to stop using Igbo platforms to spread what he described as propaganda, insisting that the people of the South-East would continue to support leaders based on their performance.
Uzodimma said the decision was influenced by several federal projects in the region, including the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt–Aba rail line, and the planned reconstruction of the Eastern Rail Corridor linking Port Harcourt and Maiduguri.
He also highlighted the construction of access roads to the Second Niger Bridge, the Otuocha–Anam–Abaji Road, and the Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube/Okigwe Junction Road as evidence of the Federal Government’s commitment to the region.
According to him, the South-East has also benefited from increased federal allocations to states, the student loan programme, security interventions, and ongoing fiscal reforms.
“The South-East has decided. Our people judge governments by performance and not by political sentiments. The evidence is on the ground,” he said.
On Imo State politics, Uzodimma urged traditional rulers and members of the Imo State Elders Council to support the implementation of the state’s Charter of Equity, describing it as a framework for fairness, justice and political stability through the rotation of political offices.
He maintained that his successor should emerge in line with the Charter of Equity and possess the integrity and commitment needed to sustain his administration’s achievements.
The governor also pledged to defend the Charter of Equity against political interference and called for greater investment in skills acquisition and vocational education to reduce unemployment, combat crime and promote sustainable economic growth in Imo State.
