Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has pledged major reforms in Nigeria’s housing and labour sectors if elected president in 2027.
In a series of posts shared on X on Thursday, Sowore promised to introduce a N500,000 minimum wage for workers and launch a nationwide public housing programme aimed at delivering one million homes.
The AAC candidate said his administration would revive mass public housing without creating segregated estates for low-income earners, insisting that all Nigerians deserve decent living conditions.
According to him, the proposed housing estates would include schools, clinics, shopping centres, playgrounds, transport systems and other community facilities designed to support both low- and middle-income residents.
Sowore accused Nigeria’s political elite of diverting public resources for personal luxury while millions of citizens remain homeless and trapped in poverty.
He vowed to end what he described as exploitative labour practices, including casualisation and contract staffing, which he said have denied workers dignity and job security for years.
The former presidential candidate maintained that Nigerian workers deserve fair wages, pensions, healthcare and humane working conditions, stressing that labour exploitation fueled by unemployment and insecurity must end.
Sowore added that police officers, soldiers, teachers, doctors, nurses and other public servants should earn living wages and additional allowances that reflect the risks and sacrifices associated with their duties.
