African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has fired fresh political shots at President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, declaring that the president should prepare to leave office.
Speaking in Abuja shortly after emerging as the ADC presidential flagbearer, Atiku suggested that Tinubu would be defeated at the polls and return to his political base in Lagos.
According to Atiku, President Tinubu should “pack and go back to Lagos,” insisting that Nigerians were ready for a new direction in leadership.
The former Vice President also congratulated other aspirants who participated in the party’s presidential primary, praising their commitment to national development and democracy.
“I congratulate my fellow contestants for this ticket to represent our great party in the elections scheduled for early next year,” he said.
Atiku added that the contestants were motivated by patriotism and a shared desire to improve the living conditions of Nigerians.
In the primary election, Atiku defeated former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, polling 1,846,370 votes to secure the ADC ticket.
Despite Atiku’s call for unity and his insistence that the exercise was free and fair, both Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen rejected the outcome of the primary election.
