State Assembly Hails Uzodinma Over New Complex, Second Plenary Ongoing

While the second Plenary is going on at the newly remolded assembly complex in Owerri, Speaker Rt. Hon. Barr. Anthony Emeka Nduka had his first Plenary Wednesday having recorded full attendance of members well seated.

This is happening in the newly remolded Assembly complex renovated by His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma.

Our State House correspodent reports that the overhauling of the entire edifice came with unusual classic and digitalized artistic Hallow Chamber offering efficiency, effectiveness and seamless legislative activities.

Describing the Governor, the Speaker disclosed that it takes a legislator to understand a legislator which explains the commitment of huge resources in rebuilding the once dilapidated and scary House of Assembly Complex.

In his remark, Member Representing Oguta State constituency who doubles as the Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. (Barr.) Frank Ugbuoma recounted his ordeal in the dilapidated complex prior to evacuation: “Sincerely as a legislature, I remember the last time we sat here and the speed with which we were evacuated from this place.

“My memory is still at alert to remember the dilapidated nature of the ceiling and the roof close to my office.

He continued, “All these have been effectively taken care of courtesy of  Governor Hope Uzodinma and he must be given credit.

Therefore, for stepping on and doing the needful, I must commend the Governor His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma. He has done well”.

Other Members of the House such as; Hon. Uche Ogbuagu of the Labour Party, Rt Hon Paul Emeziem . Onuimo local Government of APC, Hon Chigozie Nwaneri for Oru East Local Government, Chief Whip APC, Hon Pascal Okoli for Orlu local Govt of PDP, Hon Uju Onwudiwe for Njaba Local Government, PDP member representing Owerri North State constituency, and Hon Pascal Okoli for Orlu Local Govt, also took turns to commend the Governor for the completion and subsequent commissioning of the complex.

The motion to appreciate the Governor was moved by Rt. Hon. Chyna Iwuanyawu for Nwangele State Constituency of APC.

It was a unanimous expression of gratitude to His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma by the (IMHA) as record has it that they held their plenary in the newly reconstructed state-of-the-art Assembly Complex.

In a related development, Assembly Service Commission and College of Nursery and Midwifery Laws, as amended was passed.

Meanwhile, Imo State is set to witness further promotion of Education, Geometric Economic growth and development.

This was contained in a Bill sponsored by the Majority Leader and Member representing Owerri-west State Constituency, Hon Chief Kanayo Onyemaechi. The Bill was titled : “A Bill for a Law to amend the College of Education and Midwifery (Establishment) Law No. 25 of 2019”.

Speaking, the Chief Sponsor, Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi, called for the amendment of the Bill, arguing that when it becomes a law, will enable the College to be centralized at a place, with campuses in different localities ( Mgbidi, Orlu and Aboh Mbaise) of the state.

Lending his voice to support the Majority Leader in the amendment, the Chief Whip and Member representing Oru-east State Constituency, Hon Chigozie Nwaneri, stated that the amendment would benefit Imo People and the State Government.

Also, Hon Paschal Okolie (Orlu State Constituency), Hon Chief Eddie Obinna (Aboh Mbaise State Constituency) and Hon Chief Barrister Anyadike Nwosu (Ezinnihitte Mbaise State Constituency) opined that alot of optimal benefits would be achieved for the interest of the teaming population of Ndimo, if it was amended, passed and signed into law.

Specifically, Hon Barrister Anyadike Nwosu, who commended His Excellency The State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, for the rebuilt, furnished and equipped Imo State House Of Assembly complex and Rt Honourable Barrister Anthony Emeka Nduka, on his elevation to lead the 9th House, stated that the Bill, when amended and passed into law, would enhance development, economic growth, encourage equity and promote education because it would ensure one doesn’t go far in seeking for education.

When the Speaker, Rt Honourable Barrister Anthony Emeka Nduka, put it to vote, it was unanimously adopted, with no dissenting voice, after which, it was referred to the Committee of the whole.

Earlier, the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Rt Honourable Sir Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu had canvassed for the amendment of the Bill on Imo State House Service Commission, entitled : “A Bill for a Law to Amend the Imo State House Of Assembly Commission, Law No 21 Of 2018 and Other related matters”.

Rt Honourable Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu made strong case for the amendment of the Bill, which has no dissenting voice, but was supported by Hon Barrister Arthur Egwim (Ideato North State Constituency) and Hon Barrister Frank Ugboma (Oguta State Constituency). When it was put to vote by the Speaker, Rt Honourable Barrister Anthony Emeka Nduka, who presided the Plenary, it was unanimously endorsed, and was referred to the Committee of the whole.

The two Bills, having passed the Committee of the whole and third reading, the Clerk was directed to produce clean copies for His Excellency The Governor’s assent.

Finally, the report of the House Committee on Judiciary, and Information on House Assembly Bill (HAB NO 22) : A Bill for a Law for the establishment of Magistrate Courts Of Imo State of Nigeria, and for the Appointment Magistrates, Justices of Peace, And Other Officers of the Courts, and for Other Purposes relating to the Administration of Justice, was submitted by Hon Barrister Dominic Ezerioha.

Plenary is ongoing at the time of this report while waiting for signal to give you the details of today’s session in a short while.

Recall that the Imo State House of Assembly complex was in a dilapidated condition until Hope Uzodinma came to renovate and remodel the complex for the good of the state.
