Following the opening of the 2024 Expo Summit organised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) today, Monday, March 11, 2024 by the Honourable Minister, Science, Technology & Innovation, Chief Uche G. Nnaji, the Director-General, Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullåhi has taken a feasibility tour of the various institutes under the Commission’s ascendancy.
The event which held at the popular Eagles’ Square pavilion, Abuja, is an annual event of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. Energy Commission of Nigeria, as one of the 17 agencies under the Ministry, was at the event represented by various institutes under its leadership with their different products and innovations.
The elated Director-General, Dr. Abdullåhi who took a tour of the various stands of the Commission’s institutes was seen with all smiles. Of particular interest were the ‘Waste to Energy’ stand where Nigerians were shown the efforts of the Commission in the area of converting waste to energy, which ultimately would lead to a much healthier environment with cheaper cost too. Also was the stand of Energy Research Institute, Bauchi, where machines for design and fabrication of Rotary Diling Rig Powered using Green Energy ICN were on display. The practical use of solar panels to power pumping machines from the Commission’s research institute from Sokoto State was also on display to the public.
Equally presented to the public was the wood stove, which was built in line with the global call on the need to reduce carbon emissions. The wood stove is an energy-conserving and environment-friendly initiative of the Commission that would see to significant reduction in the use of biomass stoves among several households in Nigeria. Recently, the Director-General of Energy Commission launched a similar initiative meant to save millions of lives at Kurudu village, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory.
At today’s event, the Energy expert, Dr. Abdullåhi further reiterated his commitment to an energy-compliant economy in line with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. “Our focus remains one – energy efficiency. Our direction is defined – implementing energy templates that will see substantial reduction in emissions and environmental degradation. We are not going to look back. That’s the mandate given to us by Mr. President. That’s what we are determined to do.” The Director-General, Energy Commission enthused.
