The leader of National Youth Democratic Assembly (NYDA) ,Hon. Chinaemere Henry Nwaiwu has called on the federal government of Nigeria led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All progressive Congress (APC), to refrain from intertwining the presidential candidate of Labour party in the last general election, Mr. Peter Obi with the proposed nationwide hunger protest.
Addressing some youths and journalists on some important national issues in Owerri the Imo state capital on Sunday, Hon. Henry Nwaiwu said it was uncalled-for and provocative for president Tinubu and the APC to accuse Mr.peter Obi of being a sponsor of the proposed nationwide Hunger protest leaving behind the inability of his administration to address the rising inflation, insecurity, food shortage, and hunger which according to him , is ravaging most Nigerian families today. He said the worsening economic situation in the country today has negatively affected both the rich and the poor and wondered why anyone would attempt to politicise the proposed hunger protest by Nigerians who are left with no food on their tables today.
The renowned national youth leader suggesting on what the presidency should do to avert the much speculated protest by hungry Nigerians further called on the President to declare state of emergency on food , revamp the country’s refineries to cushion the impact of the removal of fuel subsidy, address farmers and herders crisis which has crippled the agricultural sector in the country resulting to food shortage , cut down the cost of governance and checkmate corruption among public office holders rather than attempting to drag Obi’s name into the proposed protest.
Hon. Nwaiwu’s concern is coming on the heels of series of tweets by the Presidential Aide, Bayo Onanuga, that Obi, and his supporters as well as sympathisers of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, were the ones behind the much-speculated nationwide protest.
Similarly, the spokes person for Peter Obi’s campaign organisation, Yunusa Tanko has knocked the presidency for attempting to rope Obi with the protest, according to Tanko, it is preposterous of the Presidency to think that Nigerians cannot carry out a protest against bad governance unless provoked by the opposition.
