The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has distanced himself from reports claiming he endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
In a statement issued by his media team, the revered traditional and religious leader urged Nigerians to disregard the reports circulating on social media, insisting that he has neither publicly nor privately endorsed any candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The statement emphasized that the Sultan remains a father to all Nigerians, irrespective of political affiliation, and does not participate in partisan politics.
According to the statement, the Sultan receives politicians from across party lines in the course of his traditional and religious responsibilities, but such engagements should not be misconstrued as political endorsements.
His media office described the reports linking him to President Tinubu’s re-election campaign as malicious and aimed at dragging the Sultan into political controversy.
The Sultan’s media team, however, reaffirmed his commitment to promoting national unity, peace and good governance, urging members of the public to verify information before sharing it.
