Gunmen believed to be herdsmen attacked a commercial bus on Sunday night along the Otukpo-Adoka road in Benue State.
The attackers killed the driver and kidnapped all the passengers.
The incident happened around 11 p.m. while the bus was travelling from Abuja to Otukpo.
It is learnt that the attackers opened fire as soon as they saw the vehicle. The driver was hit by a bullet and lost control of the bus, which swerved off the road into nearby bushes.
After the crash, the gunmen took all the passengers away and left the bus behind. The driver, confirmed dead, has been taken back to his hometown.
Security forces, including military personnel, have since arrived at the scene and began searching for the attackers.
