Former Nigeria international and head coach of Heartland FC, Christian Obi, yesterday died in a fatal motor accident involving the team, 9News Nigeria has learnt.
According to reports on the club’s Facebook page, the accident occurred in Okigwe enroute Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, where the Naze Millionaires were to participate in the Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO/SELECT preseason tournament.
Some players and other officials sustained injuries and have been taken to the hospital for treatment.
One of Obi’s best moments for Nigeria was when he championed Nigeria to win bronze at the 1985 World Youth Championship, against host, Soviet Union.
He also competed in the Men’s Football Tournament of the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.
