Nollywood Veteran, Patrick Doyle has reacted to the recent Black Entertainment Television (BET) award given to secular Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularized as Tems.
Afrobeats singer, Tems had won the Best gospel/inspirational award at the 2024 BET Awards held at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, United States on Sunday.
Tems defeated gospel veterans, including Cece Winans, Kirk Franklin and Maverick City to clinch the Best gospel category.
Evidently, this was a different and unusual decision as the award is normally given to gospel artists, although Tems in her remarks, claimed that the song, ‘Me & U’ is lyrical about her relationship with God.
In response to this unorthodox decision, Doyle advised gospel singers not to be bothered, calling the entertainment industry a faction of Satan’s hold.
“I feel the pain of mainstream gospel artists who feel slighted that an evidently secular musician, Tems was awarded for best gospel song.
“That said, I believe it is about time that committed Christians should stop seeking validation from fickle institutions like the entertainment industry mafia which by the way is in the grip of Satan.” He said.
