(Abuja, Nigeria ) — Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, was on Tuesday involved in a heated confrontation with armed soldiers who reportedly refused his directive to vacate a disputed parcel of land in Abuja.
An amateur video obtained by 9News Nigeria shows Wike exchanging words with a military officer at the scene. In the footage, Wike could be heard saying, “They are now intimidating me in Nigeria with guns,” as he appeared visibly upset by the soldiers’ refusal to obey his order.
In response, one of the soldiers was heard retorting, “I am not a fool, I’m acting on orders,” before tensions escalated between Wike’s security aides and the armed personnel guarding the site.
The confrontation reportedly took place during Wike’s visit to inspect the land, which has been at the center of an ongoing ownership dispute. The soldiers, said to be attached to another government agency, stood their ground, citing superior instructions not to vacate the area.
This development comes amid ongoing scrutiny of land administration in the FCT, following reports that several allocations made under Wike’s leadership are under review. The FCT Administration and military authorities have yet to issue official statements regarding the incident as of press time.
9News Nigeria continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as more details emerge.
