President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on his 70th birthday, praising his contributions to Nigeria’s political development.
Tinubu, in a congratulatory message issued on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, recalled their longstanding political relationship, which dates back to their days in the National Assembly in 1992 and their emergence as governors in 1999.
President Tinubu acknowledged Kwankwaso’s contributions to Nigeria’s democratic developmment and record in public service, describing him as influential figure and progressive politician.
He acknowledged their role in founding the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2013, noting that their different political paths would not affect his affection for Kwankwaso.
“That we are in different political parties and competing on different platforms in the January 2027 election will not remove my affection for Senator Kwankwaso”, Tinubu said.
Kwankwaso, who represented Kano Central Senatorial District in the Senate, previously served as governor of Kano State for two terms and Minister of Defence. He was also presidential candidate and now a presidential running mate.
Tinubu also acknowledged these roles as part of Kwankwaso contributions to Kano State and country.
Despite their current political differences ahead of the January 2027 election, the President said his relationship with the former governor transcended party affiliations and electoral competition.
He wished Kwankwaso good health, personal upliftment and many more years of active participation in Nigeria
