A 64-year-old man in Richmond, Virginia, United States, has been charged with abduction and assault after allegedly taping his wife to a chair in the basement so he could watch football upstairs without interruption.
The suspect, identified as Terry Ward, was arrested following a domestic disturbance reported at the couple’s home on 11 October.
The allegations state that Ward restrained his wife in the basement while he watched football upstairs.
According to the reports, the woman told police she was restrained for between 30 and 45 minutes.
Officers who responded to the incident reportedly observed marks and tape residue on her arms.
Ward faces a felony charge of abduction and a misdemeanour charge of assault on a family member.
His next court appearance is reportedly scheduled for November 10, 2026.
However, the charges remain allegations, and Ward is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
