A United States-based political advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has warned that the US cannot afford to allow President Bola Tinubu to manipulate Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The firm made the claim in a post published on its verified X account on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
Von Batten-Montague-York also alleged that there is growing concern across Nigeria’s political divide over corruption under the Tinubu administration.
The firm further alleged that Tinubu appointed a serving minister responsible for the national budget despite an alleged previous connection to the embezzlement of funds from Nigeria’s treasury.
However, the firm did not name the official in its latest post or provide detailed supporting documentation for the allegation.
“The U.S. cannot afford to allow President #Tinubu to rig the upcoming Nigerian election,” the firm stated.
It also claimed that what it described as lawlessness within the Nigerian government could put the country on a path similar to Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso.
The firm argued that credible elections in Nigeria are important not only to Nigerians but also to US interests in Nigeria and the wider West African region.
“Free and fair elections in Nigeria are essential to protecting U.S. interests in Nigeria and the broader region,” it said.
Von Batten-Montague-York has previously made allegations concerning Nigeria’s 2027 electoral process, including claims involving state institutions. Those claims have not been independently established in the firm’s statements.
The latest intervention comes as political parties and candidates intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with electoral credibility and the independence of institutions expected to remain major issues.
