Former lawmaker and lawyer, Senator Dino Melaye has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s borrowing record.
He alleged that the administration’s financial recklessness could soon extend to borrowing from fintech companies like Opay and Moniepoint.
Speaking yesterday on Arise TV, Melaye accused the President of breaking his campaign promise to curb government wastefulness.
He pointed to recent acquisitions, including a Cadillac vehicle and a new aircraft as examples of misplaced priorities at a time when Nigerians are grappling with economic hardship.
“President Tinubu has borrowed so much that we won’t be surprised if he starts borrowing from Opay and Moniepoint.
“A president who said he was coming to curb wastefulness has bought a Cadillac and an aircraft, increased the budget of the National Assembly, and borrowed like no other president in history.” Melaye said.
Melaye’s remarks follows growing public concern over Nigeria’s rising debt profile.
