National leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and party chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun met face-to-face today in Abuja, at the launch of a book in honour of President Muhammadu Buhari.
And the two leaders could not avoid a handshake, with businessman, Alhaji Isa Funtua, playing a mediatory role of sort.
Tinubu on 26 September lashed out at Oyegun over his handling of the dispute arising from the primary election to pick the governorship candidate of the party in Ondo state.
Oyegun was said to have vetoed a recommendation by the National Working Committee of the Party calling for a new election. Tinubu was angry that Oyegun had refused to toe the democratic path, for which he railed at the 77 year old man.
Oyegun, who was then in Edo state for the governorship election, said he would not respond to Tinubu’s rage as he wanted his party to focus on the election.
“We don’t want to lose focus and I know Asiwaju also wants us to win because we all have worked hard for this,” Mr. Oyegun said.
“But may be after Edo elections, after we must have emerged victorious, we may speak on some of the issues raised, ” he said in Benin.
His party won the election on 28 September.
Now that the election is over and now that there has been a handshake across ‘the aisle’, will Oyegun hold his fire?
The election in Ondo state will take place on 26 November. The party has up to 25 October to make amends over the party’s candidate for the election.
