The Rivers State Government has stated that it is too early to comment on the presidential declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
Earlier this evening, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared state of emergency in the state following the lingering crisis between the state governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
In his national broadcast, President Tinubu announced that Governor Siminialayi Fubara, his Deputy, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, as well as members of the State House of Assembly will be in a six months suspension.
When contacted immediate after the declaration by the President, the Commissioner of Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, said it was too hasty for the government to take any position.
“The President has made a declaration and what do you think we can say, I think it is too hasty to make any comment about it”, he said.
President Tinubu have nominated Vice Admiral Ibok- Ette Ibas (rtd) as administrator to take charge of the State for the period.
