The Borno State Director General of the Great Green Wall Agency (BOAGGW), Ambassador Usman Aliyu, has announced that the agency will be conducting tree planting initiatives in all flood-affected communities in the state.
During a visit to the Emir of Biu, Alhaji Mustapha Umar Musatapha II, to flag off the distribution of 1 million tree seedlings to the Biu Emirate, Ambassador Aliyu emphasized the importance of these efforts in mitigating the impacts of climate change and desertification.
The Borno State Government launched a tree planting exercise earlier this year, aiming to plant 10 million assorted seedlings.
As part of the initiative, BOAGGW has been supporting communities affected by natural disasters.
In response to the devastating flood disaster in Gamboru, the agency donated 200 tree seedlings with protectors.
Additionally, BAGGW provided another 100 seedlings to the Borno State University Student Union Government (BOSU) to help combat climate change and desertification on campus.
In an interview with Abdullahi Mohammed Usma, the BOSU SUG President, he expressed gratitude for the tree planting initiative.
He highlighted the urgent need for more trees on the campus, as many areas currently lack sufficient vegetation.
Usma emphasized that the initiative would significantly improve the campus environment, providing much-needed shade and reducing the scorching heat during the hot season.
