The Nigerian Army under the 81 Division have foiled an illegal bunkering operation in Lekki Free Zone area of Lagos State, arresting 14 suspects in the early hours of Thursday April 16, 2026.
The operation, carried out around 1.30a.m. based on credible intelligence, caught the suspects while siphoning petroleum products through an illegal pipeline connected from the sea to a concealed tanker.
Recovered items include a loaded tanker truck, a Lexus Highlander SUV, a Ford Hilux vehicle, a pumping machine, a 40 HP boat engine, and several industrial hosepipes used for the operation.
The incident highlights the ongoing scale of oil theft in Nigeria, raising concerns about economic losses and the effectiveness of government efforts to secure national resources.
