Troops of Operation Peace Shield have rescued 10 women abducted by suspected kidnappers during a special operation in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
A credible source at Army Headquarters disclosed to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday December 5, 2025, that the victims were abducted from their farms in Angwan Nungu on November 29, 2025.
According to the source, the rescue followed a sustained search-and-rescue mission launched by Sector 5 troops, culminating in the early morning operation on Friday.
The troops reportedly intercepted the kidnappers round 6:40am as they attempted to collect ransom from the relatives of the victims.
“Troops engaged the criminals with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon the captives and flee the scene”, the source said.
Items recovered included a fabricated AK-47 rifle, one round of 9mm ammunition, and N1. 6 million believed to be part of the ransom.
The rescued women were later debriefed and reunited with their families.
The source added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and that surveillance operations had been intensified in the area.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Waidi Shuaibu commended the troops for their professionalism and urged them to sustain the momentum in the fight against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements threatening national security.
