A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Tuesday ordered the remand of two men, Shehu Garba and Yusuf Ahmed, in a Correctional Centre over alleged armed robbery.
The Magistrate, Lukman Sidi, who gave the order, directed the police to duplicate the case file and send a copy to the Director of Public Prosecution for advice.
He adjourned the case until Sept. 29, for further mention.
9news Nigeria reports that when the case came up for mention, no plea was taken from the defendant for want of jurisdiction.
The Prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the case was reported at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID), Kaduna, by Isiaka Aliyu of Malali, Kaduna, on Aug. 21.
Leo said that the complainant was attacked with a cutlass and a knife by the defendants and two others now at large, while on his way home from work.
The prosecutor said that the defendants and their cohorts attacked and robbed him of his motorcycle and his phone before he was able to raise an alarm.
“The defendants were caught with the said stolen items while the other ran away and during police investigation, they confessed to the crime,”he said.
Leo said that the offence contravened sections 59 and 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The prosecutor had told the court that investigation into the matter was ongoing and applied for adjournment to enable the police to conclude investigation.
