Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko has resigned from the office as President Volodymyr Zelensky moves ahead with major government reshuffle aimed at repositioning the country’s leadership in response to the prolonged war with Russia and evolving national priorities.

Ukraine’s parliament formally approved Svyrydenko’s resignation on Tuesday, ending a tenure that began in July 2025. The development comes as Kyiv seeks to strengthen governance, deepen international partnerships and improve coordination across key sectors affected by the ongoing conflict.

The President has yet to announce a replacement but said the government is adopting a new political strategy to address fresh challenges facing the country.

The reshuffle comes at a pivotal moment in the more than four -year war with Russia, with Moscow escalating its deadly ballistic missile strikes on Ukraine, and Kyiv planning to domestically produce US Patriot air defence systems.

Announcing the reshuffle over the weekend, Zelensky said he planned to assign different people to manage different areas of foreign policy, and that he had offered Svyrydenko a new role leading “relations with partners” without elaborating.

The role of a prime minister does not typically include a say on military strategy for frontline operations where Zelensky and his military chiefs call the shots.

Since assuming office in July 2025, Svyrydenko played a prominent role in coordinating Ukraine’s economy recovery programme and strengthening diplomatic engagement with Western allies.

Svyrydenko was widely regarded as one of the Ukrainian officials with strong working relationships with Washington.

She played leading role in negotiating a minerals investment agreement between Ukraine and the United States following the widely publicized Oval Office disagreement between President Zelensky and US President Donald Trump.
