The Kebbi State Government, in partnership with the Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS), has fixed July 27 for a mass wedding involving 300 Muslim and Christian couples across the state.
Chairman of the Organising Committee and APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, announced the date while speaking with journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
Argungu said the 600 beneficiaries were selected from the state’s 21 local government areas. The couples are mainly orphans, widows and divorcees who met all religious and legal requirements for marriage.
He noted that the exercise is the third edition of the programme, following successful mass weddings held in 2024 and 2025, with 300 couples participating in each edition.
According to him, committees on security, medical services, transportation, religious affairs and general coordination have been set up to ensure a smooth event.
He added that all intending couples are undergoing compulsory medical tests, including genotype, HIV/AIDS and pregnancy screening, alongside other marriage requirements.
Argungu also revealed that Governor Nasir Idris approved the payment of ₦250,000 as dowry for each bride.
He said the government and its partners will provide the newlyweds with furniture, food items and other household essentials to help them begin married life, while local furniture makers have been engaged to produce the items.
He stressed that the programme is open to both Muslim and Christian couples without discrimination, provided they qualify under the approved categories and meet all required conditions for marriage.
