The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has dismissed concerns that technical glitches affected the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results amid concerns raised by some schools and stakeholders.

WAEC Head of Nigeria National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, said on Thursday that the council’s marking, processing, moderation and auditing procedures remained credible, urging schools, candidates and parents with concerns to seek clarification directly from WAEC.

Speaking during a virtual dialogue organized by the Education Writers Association of Nigeria, Dangut dismissed claims that technical glitches affected the results and urged the public to disregard unverified information circulating on social media.

Dangut spoke during a virtual dialogue organised by the Education Writers Association of Nigeria with the theme, ‘Addressing Concerns Over 2026 WASSCE Results, Other Matters’.

He said WAEC introduced major innovations into the conduct of the examination, including computer-based assessment and randomisation and serialization of questions, to strengthen the integrity of WASSCE.

Dangut said the transition to technology-driven assessment had contributed to reduction in examination malpractice and improved the credibility of the examination.

“The reforms introduced by WAEC have strengthened the examination process, reduced opportunities for malpractice and enhancesd the credibility, transparency and integrity of WASSCE results”, he said.

According to Dangut, examination malpractice fell from 9.97 per cent in 2025 to 8.59 per cent in the 2026, which he described as a positive outcome of the reforms.

WAEC released the 2026 WASSCE results on August 5. Of the 1,950,726 candidates who sat the examination, 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61,54 per cent, obtained credits in English Language and Mathematics.
