A group known as Concerned Residents of Umuguma Community in Owerri West LGA of Imo state has sent a Save-A-Soul letter to Governor Hope Uzodimma through the Commissioner for Works Imo state, Hon Ralph Nwosu over the worsening state of Umuguma road.

In a letter made available to Eastern lead Express newspaper and signed by the group Coordinator, Secretary and the director of publicity, Sir Basil Iwu, Sir Richard Onuoha and Deacon Austin Okoro respectively, it states that there is an urgent need to call the contractor to order over the worsening state of Umuguma road which has recently turned to a death trap.

The group thanked the governor His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma for awarding the contract for the rehabilitation of the Umuguma road so as to reduce the sufferings of the residents. It also thanked the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Chief Ralph Nwosu for his prompt response after a phone conversation with the concerned residents.

However, the group stated that the dilapidated state of the road has adversely affected the productivity of the majority of the people who use the road daily to sell their products thereby reducing their incomes and worsening the economy of the state as transporters are charged exorbitant prices for conveying them and their goods or services to end-users.

The group through its chairman Sir Basil Iwu urges the state government to direct the contractor handling the road to speed up action on the road and save the sufferings of the residents of Umuguma and other neighbouring communities plying that road. According to him the state of the road presently is, to say the least, a death trap adding that there are many gullies on the road causing road mishap.

He passionately appealed to you His Excellency to direct the contractor to use construction materials like stones or hard cores to fill up the gullies on both sides of the road as a remedial measure while the contractor speeds up the major reconstruction work. He noted that the road is an eyesore and filled up with overflowing floods whenever it rains making the entire road impassable; stressing that many vehicles have been damaged and many lives were wounded on daily basis as a result of the bad spot.

The group pledges their unalloyed support and loyalty to the shared prosperity administration of His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma.
