United face another daunting task in UCL second round draw

By Emmanuel Ebimoh

Jose Mourinho and his players will have to be at their top best when they face French champions, Paris Saint German in the round of 16 of the 2018/2019 UEFA Champions League. If Manchester United had hoped for a relatively easy pairing, it would seem a rather daring dream to wake up from. The reigning French champions are currently unbeaten in their domestic league with 44 points from 16 league games, having scored 49 goals. With the attacking trio of Kylian Mbappe, Edison Cavanni, and world’s most expensive player, Neymar, PSG pose a deadly threat that will surely give Manchester United more than enough to deal with come February 2019.

However, despite the recent sloppy performances of Manchester united in their domestic League, the team still has the experience and pedigree to make their mark in the biggest stage. Antony Martial, Marcos Rashford, Jesse Lingard, amongst other young players in the United team have proven to be more than a force to reckon with when it truly matters most. Time will tell who carries the day after the two-legged encounters.

Also of note would be the mouth-watering battle between Liverpool and Bayern Munich. Both teams obviously in flying colours in Europe this season, it’ll be a delight to watch as the battle for glory and supremacy.

In other round of 16 matches, Schalke play Manchester City, Athletico Madrid face Juventus, Tottenham tackle Borussia Dortmund, Lyon will try to hold on Barcelona, Roma battle Porto, and Ajax will slug it out against defending champions, Real Madrid.

Come February 2019 when the UCL returns, Europe will surely be on its feet as the best in the land do battle for the price of the most prestigious club football competition.
