Colin Powell, former Joint Chiefs chairman and secretary of state, has died from COVID-19 complications. In an announcement on social media Monday, the family said Powell had been fully vaccinated. He had also been treated over the past few years for multiple myeloma, a blood cancer. Powell was 84.

Vice President Kamala Harris remembered Colin Powell on Monday after the former secretary of state passed away from complications of coronavirus. Harris, travelling to Las Vegas to visit Nellis Air Force Base, told reporters that Powell was “an incredible American, the epitome of what it means to be strong.”

VP KAMALA HARRIS frowned at his death saying that she last saw and spoke with Secretary Powell in July, at a dinner honoring German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

In her words, “I was reminded then how he always showed the world the best of who we are. He upheld the highest standards, representing our nation with dignity, grace, and strength.

“The legacy that he leaves behind—on America’s national security and on the leaders he mentored can be seen every day across our nation and the world.

“Douglas and I send our deepest condolences to Secretary Powell’s wife, Alma Powell, and their children and grandchildren” VP KAMALA HARRIS posted.
