The International Human Rights Protection Service (IHRPS) has issued a strong statement in response to the recent conflicts and worrisome developments between oil companies and the host communities in the Niger Delta, a region known for its oil-rich reserves in South-South Nigeria. The IHRPS emphasizes the need for dialogue between the parties involved to ensure mutual benefit and peaceful coexistence in the area.

In an official letter made available to 9News Nigeria, the Special Envoy and Ambassador of the organization to West Africa, Dr. Charles Omini addressed the situation in Port Harcourt. He called upon both the oil companies and the host communities to engage in meaningful dialogue and give peace a chance in the region.

Dr. Omini reassured the communities in the Niger Delta that the IHRPS is committed to defending and protecting their rights at all times. He emphasized the organization’s dedication to achieving absolute peace and stability in West Africa, creating an enabling environment for socio-economic growth in the region.

He said: “The IHRPS recognizes the importance of addressing the grievances and concerns of the host communities in the Niger Delta, particularly in relation to their rights and the impact of oil exploration and production.”

“By advocating for dialogue and peaceful resolution, the organization aims to prevent the exploitation and marginalization of these communities by the oil companies. The IHRPS seeks to ensure that the host communities receive fair treatment, compensation, and opportunities for development, while also promoting a conducive atmosphere for economic progress and social harmony in the region.”

“It is crucial for all stakeholders involved, including the oil companies, the host communities, and relevant governmental bodies, to come together and engage in constructive discussions. Through a collaborative approach, viable solutions can be found that address the concerns of the host communities while also ensuring the continued operation and sustainable practices of the oil companies. The IHRPS stands as a mediator and advocate for the protection of human rights, fostering an atmosphere where the interests of all parties are considered and respected.”

“As the situation continues to unfold, the IHRPS remains committed to monitoring developments in the Niger Delta and working towards a resolution that upholds the rights of the host communities while fostering a harmonious relationship between the communities and the oil companies.”

The organization emphasizes the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region, recognizing that it is not only crucial for the well-being of the communities but also for the overall socio-economic progress of the Niger Delta and the wider West African region.
